How do postal orders work in the UK?
Q. I have bought something over the internet and I have to pay by Postal Order. I have obtained a Postal Order from the Post Office but do I fill in my own details or the details of the person I have purchased from. Thanks in advance.
Asked by andy4bes - Wed Jul 11 13:47:29 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It's the same as a normal cheque. You fill in the name of the person who is going to be paid. You keep the stub as a kind of receipt.

I'm in the US. How do I cash a bunch of British Postal Orders that I received?
Q. I'm in the US. Now I have a bunch of British Postal Orders I got when selling some things by eBay. ButI don't know what to do with them (should have used PayPal or thought ahead!) How can I change these into cold hard cash??
Asked by Steve W - Thu Jul 10 23:22:24 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The only way that I can think of, is by depositing them in your bank account (takes longer to clear since it's a non U.S. instrument). I've never heard of the US Postal Service cashing British money orders. A check cashing place that you may do business with may trust you enough to cash them for you, but then again since the money orders are not from the U.S., they are under no obligation to do so.

A. Contact the facility and identify the inmate you want to send money to. They will give you his inmate ID number. Address the money order on the recipient's side with Inmate name and number mailing address of the facility City, State, Zip Code On the sender's side, make sure your name is clearly legible with a full return address. Best of luck and I hope this is useful to you

A. ok you can cash postal orders in the post office but if it has a faint line of stars going thru the name or amount its crossed which means whosever name is on it can only cash it by putting it into your bank account. an uncrossed postal order can be cashed by anyoen at the post office and you dont have to show id, you just sign it at the back.

A. It depends on how much you are sending one for. 500 and below is $1.05 $500.01-$1,000 is $1.50 I don't think there is an age requirement. I almost always get carded for alcohol, yet when I was at the post office today to get a money order, they didn't ask.

Is it possible to get a sterling postal order from an Irish post office?
Q. I live in Ireland and am ordering something from the uk the payment is 6 and i must use a postal order will an irish post office sell postal orders in sterling?
Asked by antoinette c - Sat Feb 21 12:48:09 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. No, you can't buy sterling postal orders in Ireland, but the banks supply sterling drafts. In your position, I would ask a friend or relative in UK (even in NI) to buy and mail the postal order to the seller for me, and I would pay them in euro. Chances are, that friend or relative would be either planning a visit to Ireland or Europe sometime soon, needing euro, and 6 isn't a huge amount to ask for. If the item were to be 5 or 10, another alternative would be to buy the sterling note in any bank, and send it off by registered mail. But the banks don't do sterling coins, to make up other amounts.

Q. I'm new to postal orders, and i'm trying to buy something on ebay with one. But the thing i'm trying to buy is in England, and I live in Ireland. A. Not sure about postal orders in Ireland. Check with them. But I think, any banks would do a money order or a bank draft in a foreign currency and have you pay with your local currency. Would that help? I can bet, if a merchant takes postal orders, he would more willingly take a money order or a bank draft.
