How a website collecting children's information verifies a parental consent e-mail is really sent by parent?
Q. Acording to "The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998" a commercial website requires "verifiable parental consent" before collecting information like e-mail addresses from children. For the internal use of the website, this means getting an e-mail from the parent. The question is how an e-mail can be verified that is realy sent by the parents.
Asked by Sina D - Mon May 19 08:55:37 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Usually a website will say "Enter your parent/guardian's email address here" and once that form is submitted, an email is sent to that email address. That email asks for confirmation. But there really is no way of assuring a child enter their parents email, or another one of their own.

How do I start collecting football cards?
Q. My son wants to start collecting NFL football cards. I want to get him a starter set with holders and a binder. Where do I get the cards from? I'm only interested in finding current cards 2006-present. What are the trusted namebrands for football cards?

A. Go to a local card shop. You'll find them in the phone book. Also find a copy of Beckett Football Card Collector magazine. They will list cards and values of cards. I like Topps and Fleers. But there are a lot of different companies. I've been collecting since 1969. Topps used to dominate sports cards. Now there are a lot of different companies. You and your son have to decide why you want to collect. You can get sets, singles or players from certain teams. You also have to decide how much you want to spend. That's a big question. Some of the cards from 2006 are expensive. If you have any questions you can email me. I'd be more then willing to help you and your kid. It's a great hobby.

How do you start collecting game worn goalie masks, blockers, and catchers/trappers?
Q. I really want to start collecting these items and I don't know how to start or begin looking.
Asked by wakemaker9 - Sun Oct 25 17:27:50 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. NHL game worn goalie masks are almost impossible to come by. Due to the nature of the work, in a lot of cases the masks are repainted and held on to by the goaltender. In a 2005 interview with the Hockey News, painter Greg Harrison mentioned he had done over 300 NHL masks, and in all but 4 cases, the masks were owned by him, the player, or the HHOF. The 4 that are in Private hands all went for over $5,000 each. One of Hasek's helmet/cage masks from his Buffalo days was auctioned off in 2001 and raised $31K for the Rosewell Cancer Institute. The blockers and catchers would probably come at lower prices, but will stink massively without professional cleaning.

A. First, you have to consider why you want to collect vinyl. Are you interested in the sound or do you want to try to hold on to this albums as future collectibles? If you're interested in holding on to these as future collectibles, there are more issues that you need to aware of. Collectors typically are looking for items that are in the same condition that they were when they were brand new. For albums, this means that they covers are clean, bright, and do not show any wear. It also means that any inserts, like the paper sleeves for the album are intact and original. Finally, the album has to be unscratched, flat (not warped), and it has to play well. Why are the counties still collecting inflated property taxes?
Q. So many of us bought house that plunged down in value, but nothing is being done about the counties still collecting inflated property taxes? Why is nothing being done about this?
Asked by moondrop000 - Mon Jun 2 11:33:52 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. In almost all jurisdictions, you can appeal the valuation of the property. In California, it doesn't do much good if you've owned the house for a while, because of Proposition 13 (which limits the assessed value of the property to the purchase price plus an "inflation" adjustment), but you can do it. Again, in California, your taxes (normally paid December and April) are based on the value the preceeding January 1, with the appeal period from June to October.

A. I would start with something fairly easy. I would recommend 1989 Upper Deck. The set was popular enough (Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card) that there are a lot out there. The cards are fairly cheap - most are between .25 and $1.00 The big card is Griffey Jr that you can usually pick up for about $25. If he can't afford it it would make a good birthday present! It's important to stress condition. Even a bent corner on new cards drastically deminishes the value. The reason I recommend something so old is because the new sets all have sets/subset/sub sub sets... before you are done there are thousands of cards!!! There are 810 cards in this set and you will be able to find cards and packs at baseball card shops, shows, and online. I… [cont.]

Can a debt collecting agency add too the cost of the debt they buy from a client?
Q. I will try and clarify.Lets say you owe 200.00 for any sevice, utility,a shop item, etc. They then sell this unpaid bill at a discount price to the debt collecting company. Can the debt collecting company add extra costs legally on too the unpaid 200? Thank you.
Asked by elangarreg - Sun Feb 14 03:40:43 2010 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes this is common practice. It gives the company you owe money too a chance to get rid of the debt off their books and get on with servicing their business instead of chasing debts. The longer you leave it now the more it will cost as the collection agency are not as understanding as the original company and will keep adding more and more costs to the original debt.

Why is there a 2 week waiting period before you can start collecting Employment Insurance in Canada?
Q. I'm curious on why the government makes you wait 2 weeks (then an additional 2 more weeks) before you can start collecting on benifits? I work for a school system and every summer I've worked, but when I collect EI I have to wait 2 weeks regardless if my work is Seasonal, so to say.

A. Because you're not the only person in line. It takes time to process the forms, check out eligibility and arrange for disbursement.

What Transformers figures (Deluxe or Voyager series) should I start collecting?
Q. I would like to start collecting. What will be the most valuable in years to come?
Asked by brian t - Fri Jun 26 10:40:19 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Your best bet for the most valuable Transformers would be store exclusives, all of the major retailers like Target, Wal-Mart, and Toys'R'Us get figures that are uniquely made just for them, the total number of these figures is a lot less than the regular Transformers that all the stores get so they are harder to find and usually fetch a higher price. Also the more popular characters, the ones they always bring back in the new Transformers series tend to have a slightly higher resale value.

Is there a name for currency collecting somewhat like there is for stamp collecting?
Q. I've hear that stamp collectors (or people that do various things with stamps) are referred to as philatelics (or something like that... I can't remember the term).. Is there a term for bill collecting?
Asked by RotundSwede - Fri Jun 13 16:07:55 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. One has to understand that there are coin collectors and currency collectors then there are numismatists who not only collect but also study and know the history of the coins or currency they have or would like to have. The same thing goes with stamps. philatelist's know the history and study stamps while collectors just collect them. Give the powers to be time and they will make up a name for currency collectors. They have already done it for token and medal collectors.
