A. It's the same as a normal cheque. You fill in the name of the person who is going to be paid. You keep the stub as a kind of receipt.

A. The purpose of money orders is a check written by the US Postal Service payable to the person you put on the pay to the order of line. The Postal Service makes certain the funds are available and will deliver the funds to any bank the receiver chooses. You should not receive anything from the Postal Service concerning the money order. Unless you request information on a money order which you have submitted the check number.

Where to cash USPS Dollar Postal Money Orders in the UK?
Q. Some kindly American relatives have sent us some low value USPS Postal Money Orders for Christmas. Unfortunately, we live in the UK and we can't cash them at the Post Office or bank. Is there anywhere we can cash them in the UK? Edit: additional info in response to answers, yes, we have also tried at a bank with a foreign currency exchange, with no luck.

A. If it's uncrossed, it can be cashed at the post office counter. Take some ID with you. If it's crossed (two lines drawn across it) it's like a cheque and has to be paid into a bank account.

A. You should take them and the packaging to the post office and report it. If you don't, this will blow up in your face. Trust me. They could be stolen or counterfeit. They will trace them back to you. Don't cash them. Take them to the post office today.

Q. Ive received a Postal order from an ebay member for a purchase made from me. I was going to post it but do I have to wait for it to clear like a cheque? Or do you pay it in and is credited straight away? I know I might sound stupid but Ive never received one before! A. depends if it is crossed or not. if it is crossed you will have to wait for the money. if it is not you can take it to a post office and cash it straight away. either way I think you are duty bound to send item. A postal order has been pre-paid by the buyer so you WILL get the money, it's not their fault your bank might make you wait. Some banks dont make you wait for them bcause it is as good as cash, some do because their systems are used to cheques.

A. They're both for the same purpose, but an international money order is for sending to another country, whereas a standard postal money order would be sent to someone within your own country.

A. Postal orders are used as payment for fee/ security for small tenders/admission in govt. institutes.Any form of small transactions are possible with postal orders but the time involved in going to post office & refund process for unused p.orders is a hassel which makes them unpopular.

A. Say you want to send someone some money and you don't have a cheque book, you go to the post office, ask them for a postal order say for example to Mr Smith for 20.00. She gives you a postal order for 20.00 written out to Mr Smith. You pay a few pence for her to do this. You send this to Mr Smith and he can go and cash the postal order for 20.00 at his local post office.
